How does the energy of the city and the music play into your work?
Honestly the only city in the world for me where I have ever truly experienced the ‘energy’ of the city is NYC. Everywhere else is equal to me. Different and amazing but equal. NYC however is unlike any other city in the world. It really is true. There is so many layers to that place and you can walk those streets your whole life and never run out. It’s such a meting pot of cultures and diversity and that combined with just the sheer scale of the place makes for amazing wandering. I think the music has a profound effect on my work. Wish I could shoot entire weddings with my headphones on…ha. Like I said before I’m a very emotional shooter and music just enhances that experience for me. It almost creates a twilight zone for me where I’m detached and yet completely immersed in the moment.

What music are you currently filling your headphones with?
A variety but my hands down favorite for the streets is Jonsi&Alex and Sigur Ros.

Clarification of the noun question; What person, place or thing do you want to shoot that you haven’t gotten the chance to?
The nomads of Mongolia has always been the answer to that question for me. And I intend on pursuing that project in the future. I’d love to move my family out there every year for a few months and get properly immersed in their culture and way of life and document it. But other than that if I could just shoot the streets of NYC the rest of my life I would be a very happy man.
