Why were you initially drawn to photography?
My dad was interested in photography, from reading books to collecting cameras, but music was my passion during my childhood (and still is) – I played the piano for over 15 years. When I decided to live overseas I had to find another way to express myself. Documenting my surroundings became essential to me not only to stay in touch with my friends and family but also to remember these unique moments and the people I’d met. I haven’t stopped making photographs since then.

What is your favorite subject matter?
Whatever inspires me and whoever crosses my path. I made a lot of portraits of kids and elderly people when I went to Asia and Peru. It was really challenging in some rough areas and I have learnt a lot from trial and error. Over the years I also realized that objects and places from the past seem to catch my eye. I am drawn to antique stores, old cafes, vintage cars and so on, probably thanks to my European background.

What is something personal about you and photography that nobody knows?
Well, probably quite a few things but I would say that I always travel with my favorite photography book in my suitcase. Nothing really superstitious about it but when I feel down or need inspiration, I flip through a few pages to get my mojo back. I spend a lot of time on the road so it can get a bit lonely at times. This book is my constant travel companion, with my cameras obviously.

What’s one noun you haven’t had the opportunity to shoot that you would like to?
Musicians. Soon…

Originally from France, I spent a few years in the West Indies and Ireland before moving to Australia in 2005. Although I became Australian and love the atmosphere down under, Europe is now calling me back.

I specialized in documentary in Sydney. Nothing against digital photography but I feel more connected aesthetically to film. It suits my style better and I am naturally comfortable with analog cameras.
